Product Development vs. Software Development
Know thy differences!
When Product Managers operate with “user stories”, there is clearly some unhealthy mix at work.
User stories came from and belong to the world of software development. They are without any product usage context and with little information about the goals and needs behind the stories. In fact they are not even that – stories. In a product driven company product managers are using Jobs-To-Be-Done to describe the job the product is “hired for” in that scenario. Of course also using sub-jobs to detail out the whens and hows of bigger jobs.
The Product Owner is probably the most obvious link between the two spheres.
